PROFESSIONAL INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL
6pm - $5.00 (screening & lecture) The Hudson’s Building, Directed by Gary Glaser
This insightful documentary combines the preservation vs. demolition debate, with the social and cultural impact of the much-loved 106-year-old former department store. Hudson’s employee and customer interviews are featured, as well as dozens of historic photos and home movie footage. Interviews with developers, city planners, preservationists and city council provide an active dialog regarding not only the issue of redevelopment vs. demolition, but also how such decisions are rendered. Since its closing in 1983, and demolition in 1998, the Hudson’s building had come to represent both Detroit’s historic past and its potential future. Like no other structure, it sat at the center of all plans concerning downtown development. Part nostalgia, part public affairs, The Hudson’s Building documentary illustrates the depth of feelings Metro Detroiters had for the 106-year-old building.

7pm – Lecture with Q & A by Tim Jeffrey.  A seasoned professional writer who has been optioned numerous times by Hollywood and wrote a successful network television program, native Detroiter Tim Jeffrey changed direction and wrote, directed and produced a dramatic feature film, You Are Here, that has garnered rave reviews and begins to tour nationally in 2007. Over the years, he has written chapters of books under contract, developed screen scripts, written, directed and produced his stage plays and today continues to write and direct short commercial videos and films locally for his company, The Jeffrey Porch.
